Do you know anyone who has made a great cultural contribution to our area? Give them the recognition they deserve by nominating them for a Great Lakes Cultural Award in 2011.
Great Lakes Council acknowledges and honours outstanding contributions to the visual and performing arts in the local government area through the Great Lakes Cultural Awards.
The cultural awards are an initiative of the Great Lakes Arts Network (GLAN), a committee of Council. The Awards recognise individuals, groups and organisations for artistic excellence, innovation, achievement and/or support of the arts.
Nominations are invited under seven categories, namely: Visual Arts: Organisation, Individual and Youth (under 18); and Performing Arts: Organisation, Individual and Youth (under 18).
The seventh category, Enlightened Support is awarded to an individual, group or organisation that has made a significant contribution to any creative discipline either by endowment or by creative practice.
"The cultural awards are a wonderful way for people to acknowledge the artistic achievements of the people around them" said Chair of GLAN, Cr Leigh Vaughan. "Since their inaugural year in 2007, many creative people have been recognised across the Great Lakes.
"In 2011 we'd especially like to encourage nominations in the youth categories as we know there are many talented and creative young people living in the Great Lakes."
The Great Lakes Cultural Awards will be presented at an exciting "Great Night Out"
